Jennifer Woods
Jennifer “Jenny” Woods is a proud Noongar Elder and artist whose work comes from a deeply personal place of culture, family, healing and connection to Country. Born near Borden, Jenny grew up on Country, surrounded by the landscapes, plants, animals, waterways and seasonal changes that have remained with her throughout her life. These early experiences continue to shape her identity and provide the foundation for her artwork today.
A distinctive part of Jenny’s artistic process is that she paints solely from memory. She does not rely on photographs or images to recreate Country. Instead, she draws upon the places, colours, patterns and experiences she has carried with her since childhood. Her paintings come from what she remembers, what she has felt and what remains strongly held within her. In this way, each artwork becomes more than a representation of a landscape—it is an expression of Jenny’s lived relationship with Country.
